Woman Representation Is Political Compromise

(Jakarta, 28/2) - The 30 percent conditional of woman representation in political party (Parpol) is a prove of political compromise, said Sri Budi Eko Wardhani as woman observer in the Political Review Centre (Puskapol) of Social and Political Faculty (Fisip), Universitas Indonesia (UI).

“I think this is discrimination because only applied on new parties. Eventhough it will also apply on old parties,” Sri said after the database launch of potential woman profile on political party and civil society for the legislative candidacies in Bidakara Hotel, Jakarta.

The existence of Political Party Law (UU Parpol) No.2 of 2008 is a momentum for women to fight their aspiration at political field. “Therefore we support women participation to involve the 2009 election,” She declared.

Based on Puskapol UI database since September 2007 until January 2008, there are 996 potential women. 365 are come from 7 political parties. 87 people come from Golkar party, 52 from PDI-P, 40 people from PKB, from PAN 63 people, 67 people from PPP, from PKS 31 people, and from Demokrat 25 people.
