Undiminished of Unemployment in Indonesia Year 2005-2007

(Jakarta) – The amount of unemployment in Indonesia year 2005-2007 haven’t been diminished, although government had announced about unemployment reduction from 10,3 percent to 9,8 percent.

Hendri Saparini, an economist from Indonesia Rouse Team said in Indonesian Economy Outlook 2008 in Gran Melia Hotel in Jakarta, Wednesday (16/1)

Hendri who is also the Econit’s Managing Director said, definition of employee in advanced country is people who worked with minimum 35 hours per week, meanwhile government through Statistic Central Bureau (BPS) still used the employee definition as person who worked minimum one hour per week.

“There has been increasing of workers for 4,5 million people in August 2007 in informal sector, which are commerce and agriculture. The increasing in both sectors won’t add to income significantly,” He explained.

In reference to that, Hendri continued, Econit had a notion of marked-up data as big as 50 percent done by government in job demanding creation and about 1,1 million unpaid additional employees.

At the moment, government’s budget to reduce unemployment increased to 2,8 times higher for three years.
The economic growth which creates employment should be questioned,” He added. (Nurseffi,Dhita/Teks.Lala)
